Sports and the military project …

I was lead editor on a project that examined the intersection between sports and the military in San Diego. That included initial planning meetings, working with reporters on various stories, and devising presentation plans for online and print.

Coach K

I include this because we had our first meeting on this project 14 months before it ran. We recognized that Coach Krzyzewski was on the verge of breaking the NCAA wins record and started planning. When he broke that record, we executed what I believe was by far the best project on the coach, much better than what our larger competitors (Raleigh News and Observer, Charlotte Observer, ESPN) did. I think this is a good example of how good planning can help you compete with anyone.
